Can Foot Pain Be Related To Heart Problems?
Believe it or not, foot pain and your heart have a lot in common. Feeling pain in your feet may be a direct result of a heart problem. With the health of the heart contributing to so many bodily functions, it is common for simple injuries like foot pain to be linked to a problem with the heart. If you experience pain in the legs, feet, or toes, it’s important to seek professional advice from podiatrist in great neck. If foot problems are left untreated, they could lead to more severe problems. Not only are they problems in the feet, but they may be associated with other problems in the body, such as the heart.
WHY IS FOOT PAIN RELATED TO HEART PROBLEMS?
The heart is responsible for blood flow throughout the body. When its pumping is strained or stopped, it can affect the flow of blood to the feet. This may result in foot pain or swelling. Feet need oxygen that comes from properly pumped blood, all pointing back to the health of the heart. Without a properly working, healthy heart, foot problems can arise. Podiatrist in great neck can assess your foot problems and diagnose the issues in your feet.
SYMPTOMS OF FOOT PROBLEMS LINKED TO THE HEART
If your heart is affecting the pain in your feet, there are some common signs and symptoms that will likely arise. These may include:
•Dry and thinning skin
•Changes in toenails
•Cold, numb feet and/or toes
•Wounds that take significant time to heal
•Pain or cramping when walking short distances
PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL DISEASE
PAD, short for peripheral arterial disease, is a common circulatory problem in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the limbs. With this disease comes a shortage of blood flow that cannot keep up with the body’s demand. PAD occurs when plaque forms in the arteries which carry blood from the heart to other body parts.
As PAD evolves, you may experience pain in your feet or toes, even when still. It can limit your walking and ability to use your feet and legs normally. If left untreated, this disease can lead to worse conditions, such as a heart attack, amputation, stroke, and more. There are several common factors that may lead to PAD, including:
•Age over 60
•High blood pressure
