Eat right. Be well.

The RENAL DIET (or KIDNEY DIET) needs to be individualized. Everyone should discuss their particular situation with their nephrologist. However there are some guiding principles to consider.

In early stage CKD (Stage 1-3), dietary restrictions may be quite modest. Generally, lower protein diets are helpful in slowing the progression of kidney disease. As CKD progresses and kidney function worsens, diet becomes even more important. General recommendations for a RENAL DIET are typically:

  • Protein
  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Phosphorous
