Thomas Panetta M.D., F.A.C.S., is one of the pioneers of the field of vascular access as well as being a widely recognized and distinguished surgeon and professor. Dr. Panetta is the Medical Director of Thomas Panetta, M.D., Vascular Surgery, PLLC . He has developed many of the techniques used at its facilities. Dr. Panetta is former Chief of Vascular Surgery at Staten Island University Hospital and Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. As a Professor of Surgery and Radiology, SUNY Downstate Medical Center he established the Vascular Surgery Fellowship in 1994 which continues its accreditation and training of Vascular Surgeons. He established and directed the Brooklyn Endovascular Training Symposium from 1995 until 2000 at both institutions. He continues to run training programs for vascular surgeons, interventional radiologist and interventional nephrologists. He has published many peer reviewed articles and book chapters in notable publications. He is a member of 18 renowned medical societies. He has presented at some of the most prestigious medical gatherings around the world.
He is an international authority on vascular trauma, endovascular surgery, vascular surgery basic science and clinical research, and access surgery. He is a pioneer in developing new techniques and has been involved in the development of many of the “first procedures” of their type performed in the United States. He has one of the first training programs for endovascular surgery that trained regional, national, and international figures in the field to perform everything from catheter and guidewire skills, to the most complicated of endovascular and access techniques.
