This past weekend was filled with incredible moments of recognition, gratitude, and inspiration as we celebrated the remarkable work of Shannon Mulroy and her family โ champions for organ donation and kidney health awareness.
Assemblyman Michael Durso had the privilege of presenting Shannon Mulroy with her 2025 Woman of Distinction Award, surrounded by her loving family โ husband John, daughter Julia, and son TJ. He said, โIt was truly an honor to meet such an amazing family whose commitment to advocacy, education, and community service continues to touch countless lives.โ
Shannonโs tireless work as a living donor, organ donation advocate, and supporter of transplant families only begins to capture her impact. Her compassion, courage, and leadership inspire others every day to consider the life-changing gift of organ donation.

Additionally, Shannon was humbled to receive the New York State Woman of Distinction Award and Proclamation for her advocacy around kidney disease and kidney donation. Shannon shared, โAs a living donor โ having donated my kidney to a stranger โ this recognition is a reminder of the strength and unity within our donor community. Together, we are proving that one act of kindness can change the course of another personโs life.โ
The weekend concluded at the Families of Distinction Gala at Crest Hollow Country Club, where the family celebrated alongside Shannonโs daughterโs donor family and hundreds of others who share in the mission. It was an evening filled with hope, gratitude, and renewed purpose, a testament to the power of compassion and community.
To honor the legacy of Shannonโs daughter, the family is proud to announce the Julia Mulroy โ20 Scholarship Fund at Saint Anthonyโs High School. This annual scholarship supports students who demonstrate exceptional leadership and advocacy for kidney donation and kidney disease awareness.
